Not too many 8 channel h.264 hardware compression cards around. Have tried the Avermedia NV7000H with similar features to the Vguard but it can only do 50fps at 720 X 480 spread across all 8 channels. In comparison the VGuard is massively more powerful.
Considering that the NV7000H is twice the price there is no contest!
This is a fantastic piece of kit at a give-away price.

Superb product.
With a modest spec PC and one of these cards you can put together a really top notch 8 channel DVR with the sort of performance and features only found in some very expensive recorders.
For those who prefer jpeg for professional stuff, this system will do both - record all video in H.264 but take a series of nice sharp jpegs on each alarm trigger. This has no effect on the video recording framerate. In fact I have not found any of the extensive features on this system that slow down recordings.
Rock solid stable and running now for 8 months with no problems.
The manual could be better but the system is pretty straight forward and easy to set up.
